When you’re creating a new website or your first website, you may want to add your own domain name to make it easier to promote your content. If you are going to host a website for some type of business, you may want to make sure your domain name matches the business. Otherwise, your visitors will be confused whether you are affiliated or not.
As is often the case, we can’t control when our visitors go to our site. For example, you may have a site that talks about your favorite music band. If the band is in a huge local festival, you may want to post about the band at that festival. If you are a business owner, you may want to use a domain that contains your business (or your company’s name) if your customers can find the site easily.
I do like that our site is flexible. We can post our site on our own domain, on our own subdomain, or on a subdirectory of a subdomain that we own. The only catch is that your site won’t link to ours. So it’s always a good idea to register your own website.
